Designing resource base

Integrated development can be achieved using the results of field projects.

Sustainable_developementDeveloping the wood industry’s local sector favourably contributes to rural development, for it increases the competitiveness of the agriculture and forestry sectors, ensures care for the environment and rural areas, increases quality of life, and the diversity of the rural economy.

Rural development starts with a local approach which considers the long-term possibilities of the local region and focuses on sustainable development.

The use of biomass and acceleration of wood processing can create new long-term and safe job positions. Numerous opportunities remain concealed in this area for it is full of unused potential which will include a highly-trained workforce as well as relatively low-skilled workers.

The highest number of existing and future jobs in sustainable development is focused on sectors directly connected to energy use and raw material extraction:

• Improvements in the field of energy efficiency

• Renewable energy resources

• Mobility: mass transportation

• Recycling and reuse

• Sustainable use of natural resources: agriculture, forestry and fishing

• Environmental services

Sustainable_developement_2_slikaThe use and processing of wood for energy purposes is reasonable and contributes to sustainable development only if wood is reasonably used:

  • use of only as much wood as is replanted (considering foresters’ plans)
  • use of available wood biomass from forests (also surfaces in the growing phase, agricultural and urban areas and all wood residues of primary and secondary wood processing as well as used unpolluted wood),
  • economical heating devices are used for heating,
  • thermal needs in residential facilities are decreased (suitable thermal insulation is provided for, thermal storage is used for better heating efficiency).
